Successfully navigating the realms of acting and modeling take courage, passion, and an unbreakable sense of determination. Actor and model Sergio Delavicci has been working hard for years to solidify his name in both industries, and it’s paying off in big ways. Having already worked with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Michael B. Jordan, and Priyanka Chopra, Gio is continuing to elevate in his fields, and is more determined than ever to rise to the top.

Gio was kind enough to answer a few of my questions in regards to career goals and overcoming personal challenges, in addition to providing some advice to those who are considering pursuing a career in either industry.

Check out the full interview below.

What was it that sparked your passion for acting and modeling? Would you say it’s been as difficult as many say it is?

The passion for acting/ modeling and difficulties that come with it are two separate things. What sparked my passion for the creative arts such as modeling and acting was the fact that I always wanted to play different roles, portray different characters and dress in nice clothes. I always wanted to be the center of attention in any situation.

The show business and the fashion industry are very exciting yet can be quite difficult. It’s very important to have a good agency representation and a management team to help you achieve success. However, it is very important to have tough skin, be well conditioned mentally, physically and spiritually. There’s a lot of competition which results in a higher level of failure, rejections, and unemployment. For everyone, the road is different based on their skill level and body type. It’s also important to not give up and continue to go forward until you reach your goals.

What have been some of the things you’ve had to overcome (i.e. stage fright, self doubt, negativity from outside sources, etc.) to get to where you are today?

Being in this industry and life in general, we have to overcome many obstacles, go through ups and downs which either make or break us. I think this is just a part of life and something you can’t necessarily avoid. Personally, I had to overcome different things such as fear of addressing a crowd, personal insecurities, and my accent. I believe in myself and have a very strong faith in God which helps break down any wall in front of me.

How supportive were your peers and family as you began to journey into the realms of fashion and acting?

I have been very fortunate and lucky to have the support from my peers, especially my family. My family has always been very encouraging and understanding of what I love to do.

Being as though you speak multiple languages and have been to various countries, what have been some of your favorite memories or experiences of traveling? Would you recommend that others take every opportunity they can to travel overseas?

In order to grow and learn it’s important to be versatile, see different things as well as communicating with different people. When I was younger I traveled a lot with my parents. This had sparked a major interest in me to explore and discover the world. My all-time favorite is going on cruises to the Caribbean islands. There’s some type of energy there that makes me want to keep going back. I’ve there over 10 times now.

How important would you say it is to make time for yourself and to focus on hobbies that make you happy?

It’s very important to have some time for yourself in order to recuperate and get your thoughts together. In my opinion, being in the type of industry such as acting and modeling, meditation and prayer are very important.

How do you stay motivated on a daily basis, and what outlets to you look to in order to relieve yourself of the potential stress that life can sometimes throw your way?

I stay motivated and driven by my life experiences. I have many goals I want to accomplish. I want to use this platform to help others. I have a global fan base that constantly interacts with me and sends messages to me of how much I inspire them. Most importantly, I want to buy my parents a house, send them on a trip around the world which really motivates me to go even harder to turn this vision into a reality. To deal with stress, I go to the gym, play sports, box, go to comedy clubs, write poetry and pray. I’m not religious but I’m just very spiritual.

You’ve walked in numerous Fashion Week shows – how were those experiences? How much preparation, whether mental or rehearsal wise, goes into being a model at a fashion week show, or any show in general?

I’ve walked in over 300 runway shows. Although I no longer get nervous which comes with experience, I feel excited to get out there as if it were my first show. There’s a lot of self-rehearsal in addition to group rehearsals that go into my routine. I like to study the clothes I wear before I get out there. Once I get on the runway, it’s showtime and I do my best to sell the clothes.

What’s been your favorite on set experience(s) in your acting career thus far?

I’ve had numerous great experiences in my acting career. Some of my favorite experiences thus far were having a dialogue and fight scenes with actors such as Jennifer Lopez, Michael B Jordan, Keanu Reeves, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Biel and more.

Is it ever a surreal feeling when you wake up everyday knowing the feats that you’ve accomplished and knowing that you’re essentially building a legacy?

It’s a great feeling to be able to work with actors now whom I saw on television 10, 20 years ago. I don’t necessarily feel content or fully accomplished. However, I do feel like I’m a step closer towards where I see myself on top.

What empowering advice would you give to anyone who has a dream or passion that they’re too afraid to pursue due to the risk of potential failure or being afraid of the opinions of others?

My advice is to educate yourself and do your homework on the type of field, occupation you want to be involved in. Also, don’t ever let anyone or anything stop you from pursuing your dreams. Believe in your potential and have a strong faith in God. What is yours no one can take away.

In closing, what projects should we be on the lookout for from you, and where can people keep up with you on social media?

Currently you can watch me in Quantico season 3, episode 4. I also have 2 major movies coming out soon where I have a big role in both.
